A modern, trans-arts remix of the Tanabata legend of star-crossed lovers and the star festival.
With Chris Mosdell (Michael Jackson, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Sarah Brightman, YMO), anime voice actress Yuu Asakawa (Megurine Luka, Azumanga Daioh, Bubblegum Crisis), graphic theatre artist Kin Shiotani, experimental koto player Michiyo Yagi, gagaku “sho” musician Tokiko Ihara, biwa player Rieko Fujitaka, calligraphist Setsuhi Shiraishi, environmental sound engineer Samuel Andre and sword master Yuta Kurosawa.
"Japanology" Series at Royal/t
At Royal/t Cafe and Gallery in Culver City 2009-2011. Organized and hosted events combining film/anime screenings with culinary offerings at the now legendary art-kei "maid cafe" in downtown Culver City, California. Themes included bosozoku (biker gangs), S&M, chocolate culture, and traditional foods in modern context.
International Hip Hop Film Festival and Conference at UCLA
Grant-writer and co-organizer of Hip Hop Film Festival at UCLA. In conjunction with the UCLA Working Group on Hip Hop Studies, UCLA Departments of Ethnomusicology, Musicology, and Comparative Literature, and J.U.I.C.E. (Justice by Uniting In Creative Energy, a non-profit hip-hop community center) collaborated to bring LA hip-hop festival January 19-22, 2006
